Soap Family Kit

One of my ferrets is shedding. Is it normal?

I have five ferrets and one of them is shedding like crazy. It is since yesterday. I gave all five a bath and shampooed them with ferret friendly soap. One had Adrenal tumors but i'm pretty sure it's my albino one that is shedding. The two I originally had were rescued (they were on the curb of someones house) and they don't shed much.. we've added 3 kits to the family so raising kits is all new to me. Is it normal for them to shed? It doesn't seem like adrenal disease. (no specific loss on stomach back or tail) i believe theyve reached their full size.

Ferrets shed in the fall and spring. This is 'late' spring and it is perfectly acceptable to see shedding at this time. My ferrets actually just stopped shedding their winter coat about 2 weeks ago. Because climate is different everywhere not to mention the way your home is heated and cooled as well as the amount of light the room your ferrets are in gets...it is impossible for every-ones ferrets to shed the same time. There are soooo many factors involved!

You know the signs of adrenal...as long as you are seeing none of these signs don't let it bug you! The only advice I can offer you is to keep the cage and hammocks extra clean in order to rid them of all the hair. You can also administer a ferret or cat laxative OR just plain 'ol Vaseline (they love it) to keep things 'moving' so to speak. hehe Follow the package directions but you can typically give one dose once a day. With the Vaseline I just scoop out a nice size blob with my index finger. This will obviously prevent hair balls.
